Ware Cemetery

Ware Cemetery in Hertfordshire resembles the famous Highgate in respect of the fact that it comes in two half's. Divided almost in the middle by Watton road both the East and West sides are still in use, although the old (west) side is now only for cremated remains which are buried atop old graves whose headstones and monuments have long since been removed.

Both sides are worth a visit with several chest tombs a few statues and endless Victorian symbolism. The West side has a nice example of a Victorian T chapel, so called due to it's segmented shape, the top end of the chapel being for non-conformists and the slightly larger part reserved for Anglicans.

The Chapel as well as the Gate House have now unfortunately been sold and converted into private apartments. Information on the Cemetery seems hard to come by and I've been unable to establish if there was ever a crypt or catacomb under the chapel, in it's present day guise there is no visible evidence to suggest such, but if you know different please let me know.
