News 2018
21st December 2018
Christmas 1968 history was made. Three Astronauts became the first men to leave the gravitational influence of Planet Earth and travel to the Moon.
Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders formed the crew of the Apollo 8 mission which launched from Cape Kennedy at 12.51 GMT on the 21st of December 1968. Three days later on Christmas Eve Apollo 8 entered into Lunar orbit.
Apollo 8 orbited the Moon 10 times at an altitude of 111km before returning to Earth. During an orbit on Christmas Day at 02.34 GMT the crew made a historic broadcast from the Command Module reading from Genesis about the creation of the planet they could see floating in the black void of space.
To mark the 50th anniversary of this historic moment Moon Phase Radio will broadcast the Apollo 8 Christmas message exactly 50 years later at 02.34 GMT on Christmas morning. The message will be repeated randomly until the 27th of December which marks the missions successful return to Earth.
The above photo taken by William Anders famously became known as 'Earthrise'.
Back on Earth after the successful mission Ander's is quoted as saying "We came all this way to explore the Moon, and the most important thing is that we discovered the Earth".
Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas, from the artists who create the music to the listeners who make it worthwhile, we at Moon Phase Radio send our thanks and best wishes.

And so begins the month of Christmas and helping launch our festive playlist is artist David Wahler with a new album entitled 'Christmas at Home'.
In this day and age, it's refreshing to discover an artist who is living life on his own terms, and on his own timing...David Wahler is such a person. As early as age 7, it was clear that music would be natural part of his life, yet his artistic talent was not limited to music. David has enjoyed a successful Interior Design career as well, and today, all of his talents are converging in an exciting array of new music projects and curated playlists.
Just a handful of years ago, David returned to his first love, music, and embraced his dream of making music not just his career, but his life. Renewing his affinity for music and inviting it back into his life reignited his passion to create beautiful soundscapes; and his lifelong business experience is handy in elevating his music’s commercial and critical success.
His first album, Antiquus, was released in 2009, to critical acclaim, setting a (then) record for highest charting debut album on the Zone Music Reporter chart. And now with the release of 2018’s Mosaic, David appears on the cusp of worldwide success, as he continues to craft melodic keyboard soundscapes, melding classic new age melodicism with cutting-edge electronics and state-of-the-art production quality.
David can be found on facebook, bandcamp, itunes, cdbaby, twitter as well as other platforms.

'A New Awareness' by Richard Shulman now featuring on Moon Phase Radio
Renowned new age pianist and synthesist Richard Shulman has created an instrumental 12-song recording of meditative music, A New Awareness: Music of the Twelve Rays, through a close spiritual collaboration with Michael G. The music is meant to help connect listeners to the power, energy and awareness levels of the Twelve Rays.
Richard Shulman has become one of the leading musicians in the new age genre over the past several decades, and since 1984 he has dedicated his music to Divine connection and the awakening of inner joy. Shulman has more than two-dozen albums under his own name as well as another two-dozen recordings for which he has provided compositions, performances or production (such as Bliss of Being by his group The Pure Heart Ensemble). He studied at the prestigious Eastman School of Music, got his Masters Degree in musical composition from State University of New York at Buffalo, and was a composer-performer for a decade with Theatre of the Heart -- a New York City-based performance group working to bring higher consciousness and environmental awareness to audiences. New artist Stephanie Sante with a new album "Clear Light" now featuring on MPR
On her latest album, Clear Light (a tribute to the oceans of our planet), longtime acclaimed and award-winning keyboardist Stephanie Sante returns to ambient and new age music -- genres where she enjoyed considerable success a decade-and-a-half ago with her initial solo recordings -- Into Light, Immaculate Conceptions and Inner Beauty.
Although in the intervening years she released occasional new age music singles (“Fathomless Heart,” “Speak To Me,” “Leaves Fall”), Sante (pronounced sahn-tay) turned her attention to NuJazz, downtempo, electronica, groove, lounge and chill with the occasional overlap into either ambient or smooth jazz. While Sante enjoyed considerable success with these endeavors, she also knew she wanted to further explore new age music.
More information on Stephanie Sante is available at her website http://stephaniesante.com. Her CDs and digital download tracks from those recordings are available not only at her site but also at online sales sites such as CDbaby, Amazon, iTunes, eMusic and many others. New artist Meg Bowles with a new album entitled "Evensong: Canticles for the Earth" now featuring on MPR
The ambient orchestral soundscapes on the new Meg Bowles album, Evensong: Canticles for the Earth, are her tribute to all aspects of nature, including the earth and its place in the cosmos, especially exploring the concepts of personal spirituality, time, light, and shadows, as well as the cycle of life and death.
Meg Bowles is a licensed psychoanalyst specializing in working with dreams, creativity, and trauma. She has extensively studied both Jungian psychology and shamanism. “Jung wrote that the psyche strives towards wholeness and consciousness. One of the questions I always ask is: How do we want to express our creativity in the world? On a personal level, my interest in the psyche cannot be separated from my interest in creating music.”
Bowles goes on to explain, “I try to help people reconnect to their inner life by giving them a space to listen to the deepest parts of themselves, and to tell the stories that emanate from that authentic place of soul. That is what gives the outer life meaning. This has a lot in common with creating and appreciating music which also is most meaningful with deep listening. With my music I build layer upon layer to come up with the finished artistic endeavor. I’m a synthesist in more ways than one because I pull threads together from many different sources, places and feelings.”
Evensong: Canticles for the Earth, released on Kumatone Records, can be purchased as a CD or digital downloads at a variety of online sales sites including CDbaby, Amazon, iTunes and many others. The music also can be heard (and Bowles can be followed) at many major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, Google Play and more. New artist Marcomé with tracks from multple albums now featuring on MPR.
It’s long been said that music soothes the heart of the savage beast and Canadian-based singer-songwriter Marcomé has given her life to proving this principle true. Believing in the inherent spiritual healing qualities within, Marcomé has carved out a career both as a well-respected sound engineer and musical artist, crafting a signature blend of Ambient New Age and World Music that she’s termed “New World Music.”
While the artist’s music draws comparisons to contemporaries like Enya and Lisa Gerrard, Marcomé’s music is still resolutely her own. One key element in her music comes from her unique “wordpainting,” or invented musical languages. Fusing together sounds from all across the globe, from jazzy guitar riffs, tribal beats, and airy keyboards, the artist uses her voice as a true instrument, creating textures that provide rich color to the soundscape, giving it life.

New artist "Mysteries of the Night" with their new album "Alive Inside The Tank" now playing on MPR
Mysteries of the Night is a duo with James Marienthal on Native American flutes, Mama Quena, dual chamber flute, silver flute and percussion; and Sarah Gibbons handling vocals, hand drums and percussion.
On the album Alive Inside The Tank the musical group Mysteries of the Night dives into a profound exploration of music recorded live inside one of the most unique sound chambers in the world, an old abandoned empty steel water tank sitting on top of a hill overlooking the small town of Rangely, Colorado. Music created inside The Tank features an uncanny resonance and reverberation where every note is enhanced into a compelling swirling sea of sound. This recording contains deep spacious flute tones, fluid vocalizations, and earthy eerie percussive sounds and vibrations that create an intimate, timeless, meditative, powerfully-moving, musical journey.
The first known recording made inside The Tank was in 1976, and a few more have followed, but Alive Inside The Tank by Mysteries of the Night is the first full-length album recorded there to be released into worldwide mainstream distribution on an established record label (Silver Wave Records, based in Boulder, Colorado).
For more information on Alive Inside The Tank and to sample tracks, visit silverwaverecords.wixsite.com/mysteriesofthenight1. New artist Franco Esteve with his new single “Siurana Spell” now playing on MPR
Franco Esteve, a multi-disciplinary artist and composer, is known to create music with a film focused, story-driven approach that both penetrates the soul, and touches the humanity of his listeners. His brand of music captivates his listeners and audiences, as it evokes universal emotions in them while taking them on the journey of the story. “Siurana Spell” is a unique creation by this rare gem of a composer, who is carving a particular niche for himself, innovating within each genre.
“Siurana Spell,” is a new age-style song that is both meditative and relaxing while simultaneously evoking some classic, romantic themes Franco Esteve created. It was written specifically for Mallorca 360’s 360-degree, virtual reality video of the Siurana Canal in Muro, Mallorca, Spain, where you can relax and contemplate the canal’s beauty, virtually standing on the dock next to it. It transports you beyond the canal, and romantically lifts you to a loving and relaxing space.
The music and sounds are meant to transport you not just to what you see in the video, but beyond the video itself, so whether you’re watching, or you close your eyes while listening to the music, you move beyond yourself and unto a higher plane of relaxation and love.
You can listen to “Siurana Spell,” and find more information at CDBaby. It is also available on iTunes, Amazon, and on all the main music streaming services and online stores.

New artist and album, Bob Holroyd with "The Cage" now playing on MPR
Over the course of his musical career Bob Holroyd has pioneered music that crosses musical and cultural boundaries, and as a result his music is influenced by a diverse array of sights and sounds from around the world. Holroyd's music has often included influences from his extensive travels in Africa and Asia, and ranges from intense walls of percussive drumming -- as on his cult club classic “African Drug” -- to delicate atmospheric soundscapes, such as the beautiful “Looking Back” -- a track recorded for the “Sanscapes” project to highlight the plight of the Kalahari Bushmen, whom he collaborated with. Similarly, he also recorded the Islamic Call to Prayer at Regent's Park Mosque, writing a moving and dramatic piece around the haunting vocal by Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens).
Bob Holroyd’s album The Cage once again brings this master of sound manipulation and musical space-shaping to the forefront of the avant-garde music scene with his intriguing exploration and eclectic experimentation. Inside The Cage album, this U.K. multi-instrumentalist and sound-designer states the recording’s premise: “Freedom is a larger cage, a longer page, a wider stage. True freedom comes not from escape, but allowing everything in.”

New artist and album, Fuzzmuzz with "An Imperfect Circle" now playing on MPR
Winston Harrison creates music that has texture, color and finds freedom from structure. Dreamy sonic landscapes that wander over hills from dark places into the light. Winston recorded his first album as "Fuzzmuzz" back in 2005. After touring extensively with singer-songwriter Gabe Dixon, he found freedom in creating these formless loops of sound. "One" is characterized by hypnotic rhythms and his identifiable guitar and lapsteel. His music was featured on ambient radio shows like Echoes and Musical Starstreams. The second release "Hearts of Wandering Clouds" marked a departure from rhythmic pulse and deeper into textural sonic painting. Influenced by the music and thinking of Brian Eno, Winston likes to create music that never repeats the same way twice. "I can create music that moves beyond me when I add in chance". Interestingly enough, his sock drawer functions the same way. No two socks ever meet twice.
“An Imperfect Circle” is the third release from Fuzzmuzz. All 3 releases can be found on iTunes, CDBaby and Spotify
